The night sky is a wonder to observe and here from Fuerteventura we are able to observe the whole of the northern hemisphere and a large part of the southern hemisphere too! We have an awesome window to the universe surrounded by the ancient volcanoes, as the foreground and ancient stone circles to protect us from the wind. I can't think of a better place to contemplate the night sky like our ancient ancestors once did.
We welcome the New Year of 2022 with much love and the brightest of stars! January’s combination of clean winter skies and some of the brightest stars of the sky make it worth wrapping up, heading out into the wildand looking up! Contemplating the night sky brings a sense of calm and with the celestial wonders of Orion, the famous Hunter, Taurus, the Bull, the Pleaiades, Gemini, Canis Menor and Canis Major that fill the sky we are truly spoiled!
The month begins with dark skies with the New Moon on the 2nd and the Full Moon on the 17th. The annual Quadrantids meteor shower runs from 1st to 5th, peaking on the 3rd and with a slither of Moon seeing early in the night sky it should be a beautiful show! The full moon this month is known by the native americans as the Wolf Moon or the Spirit Moon, as the howl of the wolves was particularly noted.
The Planets Jupiter and Saturn are now very low on the western horizon, in the evening sky and there is even a chance to observe the illusive Mercury on the 7th. Look for the planet low in the western sky just after sunset.

¡El cielo nocturno es una maravilla para observar y aquí desde Fuerteventura podemos observar todo el hemisferio norte y gran parte del hemisferio sur también! Tenemos una impresionante ventana al universo rodeada de los antiguos volcanes, como primer plano y antiguos círculos de piedra para protegernos del viento. No se me ocurre un lugar mejor para contemplar el cielo nocturno como lo hacían nuestros antiguos ancestros.
Damos la bienvenida al nuevo año 2022 con mucho amor y con las estrellas más brillantes. La combinación de enero de cielos invernales limpios y algunas de las estrellas más brillantes del cielo hacen que merezca la pena abrigarse, salir a la naturaleza y mirar hacia arriba. ¡Contemplar el cielo nocturno aporta una sensación de calma y con las maravillas celestes de Orión, el famoso Cazador, Tauro, el Toro, las Pléyades, Géminis, Canis Menor y Canis Mayor que llenan el cielo estamos realmente mimados!
El mes comienza con cielos oscuros con la Luna Nueva el día 2 y la Luna Llena el 17. La lluvia de meteoros anual de las Cuadrántidas tendrá lugar del 1 al 5, alcanzando su punto máximo el día 3, y con la posibilidad de ver la Luna a primera hora de la noche, ¡será un bonito espectáculo! La luna llena de este mes es conocida por los nativos americanos como la Luna del Lobo o la Luna del Espíritu, ya que el aullido de los lobos era particularmente notorio.
Los planetas Júpiter y Saturno están ahora muy bajos en el horizonte occidental, en el cielo nocturno, e incluso hay una oportunidad de observar al ilusorio Mercurio el día 7. Busque el planeta bajo en el cielo occidental justo después de la puesta de sol.
