GEMINIDS METEOR SHOWER

10.00

THURSDAY DECEMBER 14 2017

With no moon in the sky the Geminids will be a beautiful meteor shower.

Join the Astronomer and the Star Guide in Pozo Negro, who will explain the history and the stars, to see one of the best meteor shower of the year.  The peak can see meteors stream across the sky at rates as high as 120 meteors an hour.  The Geminids, as their name implies, appear to emanate from the bright constellation Gemini (the twins).

The Geminids are associated with the near-Earth object 3200 Phaethon, an asteroid that may have undergone a collision with another object in the distant past to produce the stream of particles that Earth runs into — creating the meteor shower.

Bring a blanket, dress warmly and perhaps bring a hot flask, and enjoy the show.
